About the Family Cottage

For families who want to be together, but not in one room.

Inside Murchison Falls National Park, 15 minutes from Murchison Falls, Sambiya River Lodge offers 7 Family Cottages set under the canopy. Each one consists of two interconnected cottage rooms linked by an internal door — 14 cottage units in total, arranged in family configuration across the lodge.

That internal door is the whole idea. It means parents and children, or friends traveling as a group, can move between bedrooms any time of day or night without stepping back outside — no fumbling with outdoor paths at 5am before a game drive, no waking the whole group to check on one person. Two separate bedrooms, two en suite bathrooms, two private verandas, one shared space in between.

You step off a paved path into your own world. Each room comes with a fan, screened doors and windows, and its own veranda. In the morning, warthogs graze around the cottages — they were built close to their natural habitat, not the other way around. Being on the paved walkway also keeps you close to the lodge’s main facilities, so parents can easily walk kids to the pool, the Kids Play Area, or the dining area without a long trek.

By day, the open-fronted lodge looks out over rolling hills, the Sambiya River, and the floodplain — a birdwatching paradise. At sunset, you dissolve into the beauty of Mother Nature from your veranda. After dark, floodlights light up the river area, and the bonfire brings everyone together on the main lawn.

It’s intimate accommodation with the wild right outside the screen door — built for families, friends, and small groups who want closeness without compromise, away from mass tourism, in the tranquility of untouched Africa.
