About the Bungalow

There’s exactly one of these at Sambiya River Lodge. Once it’s booked, it’s booked.

The Family Bungalow pairs two full bungalow rooms under one grass-thatched roof, connected by an internal door — the same idea as the Family Cottages, built in the bungalow style instead. That thick thatch roof isn’t decorative; it keeps both rooms noticeably cooler through the afternoon heat and helps keep insects out, the same way it does in the standalone bungalows.

Each room has its own en suite bathroom, its own fan, and screened doors and windows, so the two halves of the family can each have their own space and still be one door away from each other at night. Outside, a shared garden seating area gives the group somewhere to sit together between game drives.

It sits on a quiet garden path inside Murchison Falls National Park, 15 minutes from Murchison Falls, close to the Sambiya River and floodplain. Warthogs pass through most mornings. The two pools, the open-air restaurant, and the Kids Play Area are a short walk away, and after dark the river area lights up and the bonfire draws everyone in.

It’s built for families of 4 to 6 who want the togetherness of a family cottage, at a bungalow rate — and because there’s only one, it’s usually the first thing to go.
